| Ed's shift only lasted 40 more minutes, and he promised himself that he'd do some cleaning for Audrey as soon as he got to the apartment. He had some coffee for the Doorman so he wouldn't distract him. He was driving around near the library when he saw a familiar face flagging him down...it was Abby! Ed cussed to himself. But should he be mad? Or happy? Oh, he didn't know. But since she was signaling him, he'd better go pick her up. He rolled down the window. "Where to, miss?" He asked in a slightly mocking voice. "Um, you know the coffee shop downtown?" she asked, eyeing the Doorman's coffee. "Obviously." Ed replied. "Get right in." She was obviously uncomfortable with the situation, but so was Ed. "So, what's you name again?" Ed asked even though he remembered. "Abby. And you're Ed." "Yep." he said. A pause. Then Abby broke the silence. "So, you like their coffee too. I thought I was the only one. You know, who liked their coffee." "Yep." Ed said again, deciding not to mention that his dog was the coffee drinker in the house. Abby sighed. "Yep." she repeated. Ed refused to be sucked into the guilt trap, and the rest of the ride was in silence. When they got to the coffee shop, Abby paid and left without a word. Glancing at the clock, Ed saw that his shift was finally over and there was no getting around cleaning today. Because Audrey was coming soon. | |
